Has anyone heard of permant straightening of hair??

I have naturally really thick curly long dark hair and it takes at least one hour to straighten it with a flat iron and when i was at work, this lady told me that she owns a salon and that she could permanetly straighten my hair for me for around $400. Has anyone here ever heard of it?? or better yet, has anyone ever had it done??? and if so, did you like the results???

It will work. Your hair will be very straight and best of all, you don't need to blow dry it or anything. You can just walk out your home right after washing your hair and let it air dry and when its dry, they will be in place, looking stunning. Just remember to put on good hair nutrition product.

However, the down sides of this kind of perm are

1. Of course it will damage your hair (worst scenario case it will burn your hair) it will hurts your hair a lot more than regular curly perm even though it will look shinny.

2. Price, $400 I guess you really do have long hair cuz mine hair I usually paid around $300 to $350. You have to willing to pay the same kind of money every 10 to 13 months to keep up with new grown hair (even thought hair dressers are saying its okay to do it again after six months I'd say stick to one year frame cuz its really bad for your hair.)

3. even if you do it only once in a year. I'd suggest change it to some other kind after three years or so. I have experienced hair loses after couple years. I stopped it for like two to three year until my hair is fully healthy again until I start it again. It was working.

4. Never ever try to perm your hair to different style in six (I'd say a year) months of after this kind of perm. Also, forget about dying your hair. (I did both and I had the most horrible time of my life, I thought I was going to be bald)

Just keep these things into consideration. You will be good to go.

ya you can do it, it will make your hair pretty straight to where you just have to touch it up... but not very ealthy and you will have to do a lot of repairing and moisturizing... i suggest you just keep it natural... but its your head. just if you do take care of it and lots of moisture!!!

yep.. I've had it done before and it really does make your hair super straight and shiny. My hair dresser recommended it because my hair was all thick and poofy.. but after getting the straightening perm, my hair become so soft and shiny. I would definitely recommend it even though it's a bit on the pricey side.

Go for it! it'll last you at least a year if you wash your hair every other day.

i have heard of it and seen a demo before and it does actually work!...also you will need touch ups when it grows out..but for only $400 that sounds like a deal!

It's called a Japanese straighten. It does straighten your hair permanently, but like permanent hair dye, the roots that grow out will be normal again, so after 3 months or so you will have to go and have the roots "touched up" again.

Because it's chemical it does dry the hair out a little, like hair dye, but if you use the straightening irons or hairdryer to make your hair straight everyday the heat will do more damage than the salon treatment which is only once every 3 months or so. Be warned though, if you do have it professionally straightened at the salon and you try and curl it for a party or a special occasions it will just go straight again, so you'll be limited to that style, but the good thing is you can just wash it and it will naturally dry straight. So think of all these things before you have it done.

they make a chemical straightener just like they make a perm. shouldn't cost you more than a reg perm. would cost. I had it done once when I was a child and was not happy with the results, but they have made much improvements with that type of product in the last 30 years. LOL, I'd give it a shot , least ask a cosmetologist about it. cant hurt to ask.

Good luck!!!

I don't think they really work

Has anyone heard of permant straightening of hair??

yes you can have it chemically straightened but it does dry out the hair you have to look after it well with moisturiser shampoo and conditioner....

I am a hairstylist and I have chemically strightened peoples hair HUNDREDS of times! I love, I think it is a great thing for people who dont like their curls! I would highly recomend it. The only downfall is that it is quite strong so it is not recomended to colour your hair in the same month that you straighten it.. and as your hair grows in you will need to get it touched up. Good Luck:)

"Permanent" straightening is like "Permanent" curling. After you get a permanent to straighten or to curl your hair, what grows from the scalp will be the same as before the chemical procedure. If it was curly, it will grow back curly. If it was straight, it will grow back straight. I hope the lady explained that to you and told you how much it will cost you to have the root area touched up about every 6 or 8 weeks. It can cost you a great deal of money to keep your hair straight, just the same as people who get their straight hair curled. Hair that has been curled with a permanent wave is much more manageable as it grows out than curly hair that has been straightened. Any time you have your hair chemically altered, it is considered to be "damaged" hair even though it may look great. Make sure the lady who owns the salon knows her stuff. Ask for a reference to someone who has hair like yours that she has straightened. If she is a real professional, she won't be offended by this at all. I always ask my customers if they would like me to do this for them. If she is offended, hit the door faster than you came in and shop around until you find a salon who will gladly give you references as long as they have the customer's permission to do so. Good luck.
