Does Straightening your hair everyday make your hair grow slower?

My boyfriend told me that straightening my hair everyday would make it grow slower, and I love my hair to be straight. If I don't do anything to it after it's wet, it always frizzes up and curls, looking really icky. Now he's got me all paranoid that my hair might grow slower if I keep on straightening my hair. I don't think my hair could ever be too long, so now I'm curious if your hair really does slow down in growing when you iron straighten it. HELP!

I'm fairly sure that this is an old wives tale. However, most myths have some truth behind them. Depending on what you are using to straighten your hair (irons being particularly detrimental) you hair is dried and weakened. This means that more hairs will break off before growing long... giving the appearance that your hair is growing at a slower rate.

PS - I have frizzy hair too and would love it to be straight. I started trying a product called "BioSilk" before drying and it really helps with the frizzies.

it doesnt grow slower. it becames damaged and you'll have to get regular trims to keep it healthty. but its doesnt effect the growth

I wouldnt worry about it- I've been straightening my hair almost every day for a while now and I haven't noticed any difference in the rate that it grows. I would recommend conditioning every day though because not doing so will cause your hair to become dry and brittle. I hope that helped!

No. It still grows at the same rate. Have you considered a chi straightener in it? Works wonders for the frizz, but find someone very good at it...ask around (word of mouth). It lasts 6 ot 12 months and should be done on healthy hair, but mine was not healthy and I had it done in October, and now the damage from before the straightener is SOOOO much better and my hair looks so much better than it did before without all the frizz.
