Will straightening hair make me loose my curls for good?

I have curly hair. It isn't extremely curly. But it is definitely curlier then most. I want to get a 'scene cut' and I was wondering if straightening my hair will make my curls go for good.

If you straighten your hair with Straightening Iron than it wont last forever because it is only "temporary". Once you shower your hair, it will go back to curly. But if straighten it everyday it can dammage hair and give you split end. Plus it can make your hair fall out. You can try the permanent straightening technique it lasts about 1 year or less, but it can cause hair to fall out. So you dont wanna be BALD! I think you should just get a straightening iron but make sure not to use it everyday. If you need hair styling tips ill be glad to tell you now just in case.

You can do a bun it would look great with curly hair! You probably just need a hair tie and some gel.

Well that's all i can think of! Oh i forgot , if your going to buy a Hair Straightener i suggest you buy "Sedu" it is the most popular hair straightening iron! I have one and it works great. My hair is sleek and smooth.

The SEDU is MUCH, MUCH better than the CHI. I believe it's in the technology of the plates. This product is AWESOME

1. Wash: Wella Color Preserve - Smoothing Shampoo for Coarse, Frizzy Hair - 12oz = $13.95

2. Condition: Wella Color Preserve - Smoothing Conditioner for Coarse, Frizzy Hair - 12 oz = $13.95

3. Leave In Conditioner: Wella Color Preserve Detangler - 12 oz = $14.95

- Sit under hair dryer for 10-20 minutes.....let it get 75% dry

4. L'Oreal Studio Line Hot Straight (Heat-Activated Straightening Cream) - 5 oz = $2.99

- Put in hair before blow drying hair completely, you may need to section the hair in 4 parts (depending on thickness %26amp; length)

5. John Freida Extra Strength Hair Serum - 1.69oz = $7.99

- part hair in 4 sections, put serum on hair, THEN USE YOUR SEDU AT the desired temperature (i used 360*)........

6. Final shine (takes any static the hair may have out)....use KeraCare Conditioning Creme Hairdress - 4oz = $10.00

- I use this b/c my hair tends to be dry and I need the extra moisturizing. I put this on my hair after I've completed my flat ironing and I also use it twice daily: 1x in the morning and 1x in the evening before bed.

SEDU is AWESOME....heats up quick, very light weight. I used the 360* temperature, I thought I needed the highest setting, but it gets nice and hot!!! I've always gone to the salon to have my hair professionally done, so I'm new to doing my own hair. I did lots of research before buying the Sedu and it's MUCH better than the CHI, which is what most black hair stylist use in their salons. I was fed up with relaxers and not proper maintenance of my hair so I deceided to take the step of no longer getting a relaxer and doing my own hair. I did get a good cut/trim a week ago a great Salon in Chicago, a good cut, wash %26amp; deep condition goes a long way, which will give you better results!

No it will not. I have crimpy hair and i straighten my hair every few days and it always comes back next time i wash it. and my little sister has real curly hair and it always comes back after she straightens it.

no a staightener/flat iron will not do that.

but "permanent straightening" will make ur curls go away for a certain amount of time, but u can only get that done at a salon [i recommend not getting your hair permanently straightened;; very bad for hair]

Well, it's hard to get a scene cut with curley hair but it's not impossable.. You can straighten it, but it's definetly not going to keep it that way. There are some things like conditioners that can keep your hair straight after you use an iron, or use hairspray to make the perm last longer (?).. A stylist can do something to keep your hair as straight as you like, but it may require some extera care.

no i have the exact same hair! its not REALLLLY curly, but it does have some. and i straighten it 95% of the time, and when i do wear it curly, the curls are still like I never straightened my hair.

using a flat-iron to straighten your hair is temporary, but getting your hair chemically-straightened is permanent.. until your hair grows out. :)

No. Straight hair and curly hair grow differently from your scalp. Your hair may naturally straighten itself with age, but chemically or mechanically straightening your hair will not last because the growth pattern is set in the root. As I understand it, straight hairs tend to grow evenly and be sort of cylindrical, while curly hairs have uneven patterns of growth and tend to be flatter. This is why if you pinch a hair between your fingernails and scrape them down it, it wants to curl. You've flattened it.

If you just straighten it with a flat iron, it'll get curly again after you wash your hair. If you want to keep it straight, I suggest you get a straight perm or go to an Asian salon and do their Japanese Hair Straightening. Your hair will stay straight until it grows out again.

no i too suffer from curly hair..and im talking looks like i just got a perm curly..i have straightened mine with a flat iron many times..i stopped and havent for a while..the heat tends to dry it out and with my curls makes them even worse as far as looking frizzy and dried out..

no not once and a while. but i have a friend who used to have beautiful hair when she was young then she got into straightening. so her hair got drier and drier. since her mom was a hair sytlist she put chemicals to make my friends hair "not dry". today she almost has no curls and her thickness to her hair is gone. so straighten with CAUTION

Straightening your hair willnot make you loose your curls for good. The only way that would happen is if something hormonal happened to you like having a baby, mentapause, there are many things like that can make it happen.

Once you start chemically straightening your hair, you have to do that every six-eight weeks, using a chi iron is only temporary.

I have a been a hairdresser for 15 years so I deal with this kind of stuff all the time.
