Is a Japanese Straightening Perm going to work on my hair?

I have really really thick and straight hair. I straighten it everytime I go out because my hair is really puffy. The reason I tried a straight perm was because it made my hair settle down and less puffy. But that was four years ago. Will my hair still have the same results if I get a straight perm now? (also, my hair is a lot longer than last time)
