How should I be straightening my hair?

I use a straightener now- I think it's Revlon, but I hate it.

Any suggestions on good, not too expensive straighteners that are less damaging to the hair. Also are there any other products to use along with it that would help as well?

What about having your hair chemically straightened-

What kind of results have people seen from it?

How long does it last? How much does it usually cost? Does it damage your hair?

Thanks!

Depending on your hair, but I would never chemically straighten my hair. I think it would take all the body and volume out of it. I use an expensive ceramic iron.( $120.00) I think if you buy an expensive one, you won't be wasting your money on cheap ones. Or you could always look up reviews on hair straighteners.

I always straighten my hair after it has air dried. And I use heat protectors. I usually straighten from the top of my ear down to the ends. This way my hair is not flat on top of my head.

well. i have a 40 dollar straightner from target.

It works really well, but always put hair protectant spray on your hair before straigtning to prevent frying your hair. (ive had many experiences with that one.)

You may want to invest in a more expensive hair straigtner like from the mall..(they have them at those booths in the middle of the walkways.) they will last longer, theyre better for you hair, and are worth the expense.

I wouldnt recommend getting it chemically straightened, this is SO SO SO damging and you may end up having straw for hair. plus, when it grows out, half your head will be curly and half will be straight...yumm thats fun.

Having it chemically straightened can really damage it. I suggest you not do that.

If you are using a straightening iron, I suggest you go to your local Walgreen's or something and look for special heat friendly lotions for your hair. Just don't use anything from Garnier Fructis because those products really dry your hair out. John Frieda has a pretty good line of products when it comes to heat friendly sprays and stuff. They are just simple sprays that you apply to your hair before putting it through heat. They help absorb most of the heat from your straightener so your hair doesn't and become damaged.

getting your hair chemically straightened is definitely not a good idea. it'll grow out. my friend got her curly hair straightened and when her new hair started growing in, it came in curly, with the rest of her hair straight. it costs anywhere from 300-800 dollars depending on where you go. it thins out your hair, like any other perm, etc.

As far as straighteners, I am partial to the Helen of Troy. I bought mine for 25 dollars and it's not damaging on my hair as long as the heat setting isnt the highest. A good idea is to definitely use straightening cream while your hair is wet...and blow dry using a round brush. that way your hair ends up pretty straight and you use the straightener just to settle the frizz and do a touch up.

Ceramic straighteners are the least damaging, but more expensive, but I know you can find cheaper ones out there. Try going to Sally Beauty Supply, they have lots of choices and prices.

it depends on what type of hair you have... I'm African American so I opt for relaxers to get my hair straight but I do use flat irons in between relaxers. So I only use relaxers like every 4 or 5 months. Its convenient but really time consuming to have to straighten the hair thats curlly
