I have been straightening my hair for the past year and a half and my hair is destroyed and burned..

I have been straightening my hair for the past 1 and a half and my hair is destroyed and burned.... My hair is naturally very wavy but i like my hair straight better. when i don't straighten my hair it looks like a bush or even worse a nest! i have to straighten it, but the more i straighten my hair the worse it gets....:( what should I do?

i have very similar hair and what i do is rotate straight and wavy days. i will explain how to get your wavy hair looking gorgeous.

first off, remember that you dont have to wash and style your hair daily. invest in a shower cap and keep the number of processes to a minimum. i wash my hair every other day if i can help it. remember to keep your hands out of your hair inbetween days, as it increases the oil in your hair and makes it look greasy.

use a protectant when you flat iron. bumble and bumble makes a shine protectant spray that you can use on every section of hair you flat iron. it creates a layer between your flat iron and your hair follicle.

when you want to wear your hair curly, towel dry your hair after you have washed and conditioned it well. once it has been towel dried, apply a serum like bed head's girl toy shine serum through your hair, especially your ends. scrunch it and let it dry half way. once it has dried half way, go through it again with more of this and lightly go over your hair again to gloss it. this should give you minimal frizz and beautiful curls.

go to a hair salon. Or straight Iron it..get help from an adult like your mom to help with you with that part.

you need a few good conditioning treatments and you need to lay off the straightener and try wearing your hair up for about a week. You don't have to worry about it looking like a birds nest. Also try to aviod to many styling products. But definately get those deep conditioning treatments

I can relate. Always heat protect, trim regularly, and give it a break.

Embrace the beauty you were born with. Spray on a leave in conditioner and let your natural curls glow!

If it's that damaged, there's nothing you can really do to fix it now. If you feel like trying, you can stop straightening it for a few weeks and give it 20-minute deep conditioning treatments once a week or whatever you feel. If this doesn't repair it, you'll have to get it cut and let it grow out again. If you're obsessively straightening your hair every day, it might be within your interest to look at it getting it chemically straightened - it takes its toll on your hair though, and you wouldn't want to consider getting it done in the condition your hair is in right now.

go to a salon asap and ask them explain to them the problem

Use some deep conditionning to restore your hair about once a week, you can buy some good stuff at the hair salon. Give your hair a break and don't straighten it every single day.

I dont know how long your hair is but if it is long I would reccomend cutting most of it off ( whatever is dead and obviously burnt) and stop straightening it. The more natural you leave your hair, without doing damaging things to it, the better it looks.

get a good conditioner and shampoo and ease off the straightening for a while and then it might be alright. Of course, I'm not an expert and I'm a guy so u really probably shouldn't listen to me.

i think you should stop straightening it at home,

and go to some place like Fantastic Sams

you can ask for them to chemically straighten your hair (my friend did this)

i'm not sure how long it lasts or how much it costs,

but it's better than burning your hair

As a guy who loves wavy hair I say stop straightening it. Just learn to manage it a little and you'll probably learn to like it. And besides wavy hair is sexy.

Deep condition and moisturize. If it's worse on the ends, trim the off. Which with a straightner I imagine it's bad, so get like 2-3 inches cut off. To help fight frizz and stuff, use John Freida Frizz-ease line of stuff. Very good. Or when it's wavy, put it in a pony right in the middle-back of the head, it's cute. Play it up with a headband or some jeweled hairclips.

try to use a heat protctor and dry ur hair first with a hairdryer it closes the cuticle!

my hair was like that too and i ended up ruining it with the straighting and blow drying and teasing and all that. i ended up cutting m hair . a lot of hair off, so that i could start new and now my hair is healthy and doesnt break as much and i dont loose as much hair anymore, becuase when i was messing with it every day i would lose a lot everyday. so i would suggest cutting it, becuase those appliances that claim they can fix split ends and what not dont work. if you dont want to cut it, i would suggest getting some good damage control shampoo and use products that are made to protect your hair from the high heat of irons. good luck

I really hope you have been using a heat protecting oil!

If not, start using it, go to a store or hair salon and ask for heat protectant products that you can use on your hair before straightening. That should help out with the damage! :)

stay away from the straightening iron!! get a good haircut - something that would work without straightening it, a good hair dresser can help you - put oil on your hair and scalp every weekend and deep condition also, start taking hair vitamins and stay away from all kinds of hair products - give your hair a break!

you might want to invest in a better straightener. the really good ones that don't ruin hair are expensive, but if you constantly straighten your hair then it would probably be worth the money. the chi brand straighteners work really well, and don't fry your hair because they have special plates on them, and they come in a ton of different colors. but they're usually $100 or more.

This happened to me. I understand where you are coming from. The first thing I did is trim my hair- actually, I chopped it off. Then I went and bought good shampoo (doesnt mean expensive) for damaged hair, and after one wash it was a major improvement. I suggest redken products, they are usually pretty affordable, and it helped me recover my hair. I understand how you want to straighten. I would also try using a straightening balm and then blow drying straight some days. Your hair will be healthy again in no time! Just make sure you get a good heat protection spray or balm before straightening!

you should cut off all the dead and burnt out of your hair then

go to SALLY'S beauty supply and buy BEYOND THE ZONE flat iron heat protection and then you should also buy some mousse to scrunch your hair because wavy hair looks good also. oh and try to put your hair up good luck.

ok grl i have beed straighnig my hair for 3 years and it is in good shape. but i have been using "got2b" crazy sleek. its only about 4 or 5 $ bucks and it works with the heat of the hair dryer/straightner adn it works so well your hair wint frizz or curl up all day and sometimes till he next. {{ i also have super CURLY hair and i hate it}}

good luck (((mary)))

My hair is not like that so this might not work for you but it's worth a try.

For damage/frying all ready done: Get yourself some whipped african shea butter, slather it all over, leave it in for a couple of hours then wash out with an alcohol free shampoo.

To prevent further damage and fluffy/frizzyness:

Get one of those ceramic flattening irons (they pretty much all work the same as long as it is ceramic). Before you use the iron spray MegaSilk heat protection spray (it's made by Silk Elements) evenly, all over your hair. It is one of the only kind available with NO alcohol or other harmful ingredients.

I agree with "thisandthat" ... My hair is also curly and when not using styling products looks exactly how you described yours. Trust me is bad... in my case my hair is really thick so it's even worse (my 7 yr old daughter's hair is the same way)... The only way to let ur hair recover now is by not ironing so often... so learn to style it curly... it can look pretty. ..This is what a I do... I use like 4 different shampoos and switch between them (whatever brand), I rinse %26amp; apply conditioner before rinsing conditioner I comb my hair (with one of those combs with big teeth). After I combed it I rinse it but not completely. I towel dry it and when it's still humid I apply mousse (pantene - for curly hair or Herbal essenses - extra control). You gotta make sure you apply the mousse througout your hair even the roots. after you applied the mousse you hair will feel wet %26amp; a lil stick so towel dry it again. I use a blow dryer but in ur case I'd let it dry by it self.
