Is RELAXING YOU HAIR WITH A MILD RELAXER MUCH WORSE THAN STRAIGHTENING YOUR HAIR EVERYDAY?

I have softsheen carsons bodifying relaxer a revolution for fine hair and i'm half black. is that a good idea? i have tight ringlets, the ususal kind or hair that people mixed with black would have. my curls don't suit me as the straightening has made them to frizzy and tight. the relaxer is no lye and is meant to make my hair look less flat. straightening has ruined my hair so can relaxing be much worse?

You should NEVER straighten your hair everyday. This will cause your hair to break off, cause split ends, and much other damage.

Using a relaxer, though, causes a little bit of your hair to break off at the end. This is normally dead hair though, so no need to worry. If you don't know how to perm your own hair, PLEASE GET A PROFESSIONAL to do it because, relaxer can burn your skin if you get it on your ear or around your forehead. Also, applying relaxer incorrectly can cause A LOT of your hair to break off....

I recommend you put relaxer in your hair if you want it straight...If you still don't want to get a perm, you can always buy a hot comb and comb it with that, carefully, once a week. but, if you do use a hot comb you're going to have to wrap your hair up when you go to sleep.

I work as a pole dancer (im humiliated) anyways, us girls have to work on out hair a lot! A lot of us chose to use relaxer and some just straighten it. . . but they are both about the same. I would get a ceramic straightner though so it won't damage as much.

Take it from another "mixed" creature, go to a salon. I have not relaxed my hair in at least three months. My new growth is soft and looks relaxed. I get deep conditioning treatments weekly, roller dry, and light blow dry to straighten. My hair looks straight (I have curly wavy hair). Relaxing every few months broke my hair so bad. I also color so I've found I can only do one to prevent damage. I color so I don't relax.

My sista,

It sounds to me that you do not have the kind of hair that needs a straightening comb nor a relaxer. I would personally do away with giving yourself an at-home perm. I am African American but my hair is very fine and I currently go to a Dominican stylist. She does not use perms on me because she said my hair is too fine she uses a texturizer and I do not use the curling iron, flat iron, period! It broke my hair off bad a few years back and my stylist grew it back to shoulder length with her expert advice! Find a Dominican stylist in your area and ask for a wash and set and try out the services..you will not regret it!

if ur hair is already damage a relaxer will make it worst.. straighten is better if u use something to protect ur hair from the heat

It always depends on your hair and your general health. I think that using a mild chemical can be much better than daily heat. If you were only using heat occasionally, that would be different. Is your hair in the sink and in you brush? A lot? Then your hair is not happy.

I do not use a relaxer at all. I use a texturizer. the difference is the chemical that is used. LITHIUM HYDROXIDE is much gentler on your hair. Be careful and read the box to be sure that is the chemical. Don't just trust that they say "Texturizer" on the box.

The one I like best is Soft %26amp; Beautiful Botanicals Texturizer. At first, leave it in for the minimum suggested time. When you do touch ups on the new growth, adjust the time based on your last experience, until you get it right.

I love the results. You do not get dead straight hair, but those curls are under control and less frizzy. My hair also seems healthier not being subjected to the heat, and obviously the results last longer.

BTW - I agree. Dominican stylist really know how to handle our type of hair. They can really help heal your hair if you have really damaged it. If it's bad, go this route first and let it heal before using chemicals. But just don't let them blow dry the crap out of it until smoke is rising from your hair and you scalp is burning! (What's THAT about?) I ask them to roller set me under a dryer and then just hit the ROOTS with the dryer.

Good luck.

I don't think a relaxer would be good for you right now if your hair is already damaged by the straigtening iron. I would go to a beautician and see what they say you can do. You could also try to texturize your hair so it's curly but manageable.

no because to make your hair straight you use an iron and an iron can burn your hair and if you use an iron everyday on your hair your hair is eitheir gonna be burned and ugly or your gonna become bald so its better to relax your hair with a mild relaxer and it makes your hair smoother, shinnier, and knotless so relaxing is better

no, it's not damaging unless you do not know how to properly put a relaxer in or know how to properly moisturize your hair afterwards. if your hair is already damaged from straightening it, it is best that you get the damaged hair cut off before you get the relaxer. no lye relaxers are actually more intense than lye relaxers and cause your hair to be dry.

cut the damaged hair off, get a lye relaxer, make sure to keep your hair moisturize and your hair will be fine
