because people say that it makes it "silky, smooth" etc.

and (haha) NO ONE is born with THAT.

so question is: for short (and eventually long) hair - is it really so much better?

I'd say no, but I'm lazy. I only straighten my hair because it flips out and looks crazy on the sides if I don't. I'm willing to bet most people won't know the difference if your hair is already straight.

Well, I disagree on the no one is born with silky hair thing! I don't think that you should straighten your hair, but if you want to, go ahead! Only thing I recommend is buying a good quality flat iron, like a Sedu, and using protection products so that you don't damage your hair.

I think it's worth it, it helps my naturally straight hair look better. Just make sure you use heat protection.

i have a smoothing iron by paul mitchell and it is the best iron ive had! i naturally have straight hair also. it gets rid of any frizz caused by color, hides any split ends, etc. i would suggest it. just turn the heat on low if you have thin hair!

I suppose you could, but just taking the same precautions like with curly hair and not doing too often or it'll get too dry and you'll get split ends.

straightening naturally straight hair is kind of pointless , unless your looking for a stick straight look for your hair. it depends on your hair type if it is going to make your hair silky or frizzy. also straightening your naturally straight almost fully flat hair could make your hair very flat and stringy.

i think straightening hair always makes the hair look shinier and healthier. i think its worth it- plus if you already have straight hair then it will only take a few minutes

Flat irons can cause heat damamge to hair. No one should use them every day. If your hair is naturally straight I'd just wear it natural and save the flat iron for special days when you want your hair to look really good. Try using just a little shine serum to give your hair that shiny look without the flat iron on regular days.
