Chemically straightening my hair...?

I've developed sort of a dislike towards my hair. it's medium-thick, I love the color and it's completely healthy. my problem is that it's curly-wavy. it looks nice, sure, just not on me. recently, I've been thinking about chemically straightening it, but.....

1: will it heavily damage my hair? how do I help fix it if that happens?

2: does it even work? If yes then how long does it last?

3: is it worth it or will my waves and curls change when my hair grows longer?

4: how long does the process take, and what am I supposed to do after it's done?

Chemically straightening my hair...?

1. yes it will damage your hair but not as much as streightening every day.

2. it does work but it will grow out. Rule of thumb says that everyones hair grows aroound 1/2 inch per month, this means that you would start to get wavy roots by say end of the second month, which isn't neceseraly a problem as it will give your hair a boost which will be lost due to streightning.

3. Your hair growth pattern will remain unchanged - however you must remember that you will be using a chemical treatment on your hair - so this means that the hair on the end will be in worse condition that the new hair that has grown.

4. The process time range can vary between people. A good hairstylist will do a test strand before they even go near your hair with any chemicals. They should be able to give you a time estimate from this.

In conclusion - I know alot of people who have had it done and carry on to do so for years, you might need to have it done every 4 or so months but it is worth it. You really do need to make sure that you get the right conditioning products for it afterwards.

the process takes about 3-6 hours usually but if you have lots of hair or really long hair it may take even longer.

the results of the chemical straight will vary. for example my hair got really really damaged and frizzy in under a week of getting the chemical straightening, but my friend who did her hair around the same week as mine is still really straight and it's been like 5 months.

If you really want to get it chemically straightened make sure that it's at a hair salon that you can trust and ask several hair stylists if it'll seriously damage your hair(something i should have done).
